We thank Google for this recognition – we are excited to be named Google Partner of the Year for social impact across EMEA for the first time! Nonetheless, this award is not complete if we don't tell the story of those who made it possible – the companies and individuals who are part of #cei1024 and Dăruiește Viață, the shared community, and our colleagues who went out of their way to contribute actively.
Here's how it went…
#Cei1024: Saving lives one blood donation at a time
The challenge
To help alleviate a nationwide blood shortage, we collaborated with the Bucharest Blood Transfusion Center and partnered with businesses and volunteers to mobilize resources. Our common goal? To raise awareness and facilitate the organization of regular blood drives.
So, we proposed bringing blood drives to potential donors rather than getting them to the center. Zitec led this initiative by organizing an office blood drive and inspiring other companies to join the cause.

We initiated the setup of a blood donation website infrastructure, which helped simplify the scheduling of donation sessions at corporate offices. The blood donation platform works by bringing mobile teams to workplaces. With just 50 interested colleagues, a team visits any company's headquarters, saving time and effort. The campaign's success led to partnerships with multiple companies nationwide.
The outcome
Seven years on, the collective efforts of Zitec, over 70 companies, and nearly 6,000 donors have grown in momentum. The #cei1024 project counts numerous blood donation sessions, rallying thousands of donors and saving over 18,000 lives to date.
They say positivity is contagious, so here’s some more good news: together with Google Cloud, we worked to contribute to the successful mission of Romanian healthcare NGO, Dăruiește Viață.
DĂRUIEȘTE VIAȚĂ IS LEADING THE CHANGE IN PEDIATRIC HEALTHCARE
The challenge
In response to a pressing issue in Romania – the lack of adequate medical facilities – Dăruiește Viață stepped up. They built the country's first pediatric cancer hospital, which was also the first new hospital constructed in 30 years.
Dăruiește Viață needed a system to manage high traffic during peak donation times, ensure data accuracy, and stay cost-effective to fuel their ambitious objectives. They also sought centralized services to simplify operations and cut down maintenance expenses.
The outcome
No challenge was a match for our collaborative efforts. Together, we tackled each obstacle head-on, achieving excellent results with the support of Google Cloud and our partner organizations.
Using technologies such as Cloud Run and CloudSQL, we delivered the right solution to support the ambitious goals of this NGO:
- At first, we unified Dăruiește Viață's operations onto a single, cloud-based platform to simplify operations.
- Next, we implemented a dedicated infrastructure to improve scalability and ensure data security, especially during high-traffic periods.
- Moreover, we revamped the donations platform to become a user-friendly and cost-effective cloud solution.
In addition to the technical support, our colleagues backed Dăruiește Viață's cause through volunteer work and fundraising efforts, aiding their mission to bring healing to children facing illnesses.
